In 1925, films were just in black-white, and the camera was just sensitive to the brighter light. So that was a problems for the actor, `cause sometimes, some actors `skin color made them look darker in some places.
The first person to film in colors was Robert Flaherty, who filmed his documentary Nanook of the North, so from then to now, people started using this filters, to make their movies better and to capture the attention of the viewer.
This helped a lot of movie makers, to make their works a film more brighter and entertainment .
Is very amazing how the technology had change, nowadays with the camera we can take pictures, videos, and record things. Nowadays the details of the pictures are so crisp that we can see anything. There are now cameras from 14 megapixeles, where in some years, we could have for 19 megapixeles.
